Fans of Tulsa King have a major change to look forward to. Paramount+ has officially renewed the Sylvester Stallone crime drama for a fifth season, but the next chapter will take the story far away from Oklahoma.
Season 5 of Tulsa King is set to move the action to New York City, bringing Dwight “The General” Manfredi back to the city where his story began.
The renewal was announced on Oct. 5, less than two weeks before Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 16. Renewing the series before the upcoming season has even aired signals Paramount+’s continued confidence in the popular crime drama and its leading star.
Dwight Manfredi Is Heading Back to New York
When viewers first met Dwight Manfredi, the longtime New York mobster had just completed a 25-year prison sentence. Instead of receiving a warm welcome from his old criminal associates, Dwight was sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was expected to establish a new operation.
What started as an unwanted exile eventually became the foundation for Dwight’s new criminal empire.
Now, after four seasons, the story is taking him in the opposite direction.
The move to New York could bring the character full circle while opening up a completely different setting for the series. Dwight will once again be surrounded by the city, relationships and criminal world that shaped his past.
Season 5 Marks a Major Change for the Series
The relocation is also significant behind the scenes. Tulsa King will become the first series created by Taylor Sheridan to film a season in New York City.
Sheridan is best known for building a television universe around shows such as Yellowstone, 1883 and other dramas that frequently use rural landscapes and small-town America as their backdrop.
Moving Tulsa King to New York gives the series an opportunity to explore a very different environment while keeping Dwight at the center of the story.
Paramount Television Studios executive Drew Brown said the production team was excited to continue the series and follow Dwight as his story develops in New York.
New York State officials have also welcomed the production, with tax incentives cited among the factors behind the decision to film in the state.
New Cast Members Are Joining Season 5
The fifth season will also bring some changes to the cast.
Sylvester Stallone’s daughter, Scarlet Rose Stallone, has been promoted to a series regular and will return as Spencer.
Several new actors are also joining the main cast, including Glenn Fleshler, known for Billions, along with Anthony Skordi, Nickola Shreli and Erik Palladino.
The additions could signal a significant expansion of Dwight’s world as the story transitions from Tulsa to New York.
What Happens to Dwight’s Oklahoma Crew?
One of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding Season 5 is what will happen to the characters Dwight has built relationships with in Tulsa.
The move to New York could force the series to reshape its supporting cast. It remains unclear how many of Dwight’s Oklahoma allies will follow him to New York and how many will remain behind.
That question may become even more important after the events of Season 4.
Before heading back to New York, Dwight will have plenty to deal with in Tulsa. The upcoming season will see him attempting to make his criminal empire more legitimate while facing political corruption, new enemies and a major personal loss.
The season will also introduce Gretchen Mol as Amanda Clark, a politician from Tulsa.
‘Tulsa King’ Universe Continues to Expand
The renewal comes as the wider Taylor Sheridan universe continues to grow.
A Tulsa King spinoff titled Frisco King is also in development, with Samuel L. Jackson attached to star.
With the original series heading into its fifth season and a spinoff on the horizon, the Tulsa King franchise appears to be entering a new phase.
For now, however, fans will have to wait for Season 4 before discovering exactly how Dwight’s latest challenges unfold.
One thing is already certain: when Season 5 arrives, the King may have a new kingdom.
