According to police, the incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. along Ogbaike Road in Obollo-Afor, where residents alerted authorities after discovering the suspect trapped inside the transformer.
Officers attached to the Udenu Police Division responded immediately to the scene and found the man unconscious with multiple burn injuries. He was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel revived him before transferring him to a specialist facility for advanced treatment.
Police Link Suspect to Previous Transformer Vandalism
After regaining consciousness, the suspect identified himself as Nnaji Chidiebere and reportedly told investigators that he had acted alone during the incident.
However, preliminary police investigations suggest he may be connected to other cases of transformer vandalism reported within the area, prompting a broader inquiry into his alleged activities.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said detectives are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement, identify any possible accomplices, and prepare the case for prosecution.
Police also urged members of the public to continue providing timely information that can help protect critical infrastructure and prevent acts of vandalism across the state.
